Voegele Family Photos

When you have been friends with someone for as long as Joe and I have been friends, you are lucky enough to see each other through many of life’s ups and downs. Joe and I met in college, he was the first person to know I was going to have a baby, a groomsman at my first wedding, and an integral part of my life for the past 20 years. When Joe met Liz, I was able to practice my photography on them while they were dating, take their engagement photos, and even photograph AND read at their wedding.

Over the years, there were game nights and waffle parties, they attended my second wedding, and we even lived across the street from each other for a time! After a while, Joe and Liz started on that next, common path for so many couples – trying to have a baby. It took some time, some science, and a whole lot of determination. However in the spring of 2022, the stick turned pink, and 17 years after Joe held my hand the day I found out I was going to have a baby, I got to take the long awaited maternity photos for him and Liz as they prepared to welcome their long awaited baby.

Olivia, or Olive, was born on November 22nd at PeaceHealth St. Joseph, in Bellingham. As the best friend and family photographer, I was able to gain special access to take her photos in the hospital. A family of comic book fans, Olive was welcomed in her signature Wonder Woman onesie, as well as with her Winnie the Pooh snuggle sack, crocheted by grandma.

In July, I was called in once again to photograph one of my favorite families and to continue my plan to document Olive’s babyhood as thoroughly as possible. Today she is all smiles, starting to crawl and generally making her mark on everyone’s hearts.

Will Olivia be, as her father dreams, the child to one day bridge human and sasquatch relations? Only time will tell. But I can say for sure, that watching her grow up, and recording her family’s story, is a true gift.
