Cape Flattery Engagement Shoot

Dareisha and Tim made us an offer we couldn’t refuse – to take a weekend trip out to Neah Bay and get paid to do their engagement photos at Cape Flattery. This is a place we’ve always wanted to go, in the middle of summer, with a decidedly adorable couple. So we packed up the camera, our tiny little trailer Sylvia, and headed off to the Olympic Peninsula for a weekend of mosses, blue skies, and gorgeous photos!

Usually, I use these posts to tell you something about the couple. or about photography, but I decided to do something different this month. I took a moment to interview our couple and learn a bit about them in their own words. Enjoy the photos, and the story of Dareisha and Tim!

How did you meet?

T: I got a message from her on Plenty of Fish while I was in my shop, under my car.  She told me I was the devil. This message immediately piqued my interest because it was different than every other interaction I had on POF, most of which were very terrible.

D: We met on POF – he was everything I was looking for, and I thought he was going to break my heart because he was just too perfect.  I decided to send him a song by Brazilian singer Mariana Froes, which basically has a bridge saying “You have a face like you are going to fuck up my life”.  Now he is my favorite human.

How long have you been together?

T+D: Almost three years.

Tell me about your proposal.

T: I told her we were going to a bridge after a firework show, and she thought it was this super lame bridge by a casino that is boring and heavily trafficked, so she was confused, and I let her believe that.  Then we stopped in the middle of Deception Pass and walked to the overlook, and I proposed to her overlooking the water under the moonlight.

D: It happened exactly like that – I was so excited I kind of had a hard time looking at him or the ring.  I held him tight; he did tell me to listen to what he had to say because that was the first and last time he was going to do something like this but that he enjoys time with me and wants to spend the rest of our lives together.  After that at home, he told me his plans where different, but he wanted to take care of me because I just had all my wisdom teeth removed and couldn’t take me out to the beach.

Tell me about your wedding plans.

T: We didn’t want to deal with anyone’s bullshit – and we wanted to take a cruise for the honeymoon, so why not get married on a cruise?

D: We were watching a show, then we joked about “Fuck everyone – why don’t we just do a backyard wedding, and go on a cruise for our honeymoon?”.  Then I was like “Well, might as well get married on a cruise!”. Then we realized it was possible and here we are.

What are you most excited for about getting married?

T: Having someone real in my life that I can count on. Going on lifetime adventures with my best friend, since that’s what we love to do. But the coolest part is fucking my best friend.

D: I am excited about a lifetime of being treated right, healing and just focusing our energies into growing together.  We are each other’s best half, and we just bring joy into each other’s life.  We can be ourselves while also being part of a team.

What do you love most about each other?

T: What I love most about this woman is the calm silence between us, the loud obnoxious role play. How she can make my heart race with a look and melt with just a whisper.

D: I love how handsome he is, his attention to detail, the freedom he gives me as my own person.  Overall how healthy and seamless he makes this relationship.  How easy it is to heal with him and trust him.  I came into this relationship with a lot of baggage and Trauma, yet he has been patient, he reassures me every day, make sure I am ok and just overall treats me like a queen.  I love his serenity, matureness, patience, and supportiveness.

Why did you choose the location for your your photos?

T: I wanted to propose on a beach initially since we both find ourselves on a beach most weekends, but we couldn’t, so it had to be a beach.

D: I had searched before for Tim’s birthday, but we decided it was too cold.  We were looking to do the photoshoot on a beach and searching Vape Flattery came up and I just thought that it’s the perfect place and it encompasses what WA is, this trail has everything to make sure people know this picture was taken in the PNW.

How was having your photo taken?

T: Awkward, I have never loved having pictures taken of me. I figured I should as evidence of my aging since I have been avoiding them.  Pictures with Amy were pleasant, and the weather was just right.

D: This is my first shoot that was not school related, and I have to say I loved the pictures.  I thought most of them would suck like when I take phone pictures, but they didn’t.  Amy did what we wanted and more, she made sure we had fun, and I loved every second of it.

Do you normally like photo shoots?

T: Never, why would I need my photo taken?

D: I was scared as a plus size woman, and I am usually not comfortable by pictures taken by any other person than me, until now.  Amy will forever take my pictures hopefully.  (I totally will)

These two are beautiful and we wish them the absolute best!
