Taylor & Moon’s Hovander Park Engagement Session | Ferndale, WA

There are some couples who show up to an engagement session ready to be effortlessly romantic, and then there are couples who are willing to fully commit to the bit.

Taylor and Moon are very much the second kind—and honestly, it made their engagement session at Hovander Park in Ferndale, so much fun.

Because yes, there was plenty of romance. There were the sweet, quiet moments, the forehead touches, the walking hand-in-hand, and the kind of looks that make you forget anyone else is around.

But there was also the bit.

And Taylor and Moon are excellent at the bit.

A Little Romance, A Little Chaos

One of my favorite things about photographing couples is getting to see how they interact when there isn’t a camera between them—and Taylor and Moon have that wonderfully comfortable kind of love where they can be completely ridiculous together one minute and completely tender the next.

They know how to make each other laugh. They aren’t afraid to be goofy. And when one of them starts a bit, the other one doesn’t just play along—they commit.

Which, as a photographer, is basically a dream.

There is something really special about couples who don’t feel like they have to choose between being romantic and being silly. The silly moments aren’t separate from the love story. They’re part of it.

In fact, I think they’re some of the best evidence of it.

Because being in love isn’t only about the perfectly posed photos. It’s about having someone who will enthusiastically participate in your weird little jokes. Someone who knows exactly how to make you laugh. Someone who will look at you like you’re the funniest person they’ve ever met—and then pull you in for a kiss five seconds later.

Taylor and Moon have that.

Why Hovander Park Is Such a Great Engagement Session Location

Hovander Park in Ferndale is one of those locations that gives you a lot to work with without requiring you to go very far.

You’ve got wide-open fields, beautiful Northwest greenery, rustic farm details, trails, and plenty of space for a session to unfold naturally. It has that relaxed, rural Whatcom County feeling while still giving you a variety of backdrops.

For an engagement session, I love starting somewhere with room to move. Wide-open fields are perfect for letting a couple walk, talk, joke around, and warm up to the camera without feeling like every photo needs to be a pose.

From there, we can move into the more intimate spots along the paths and greenery for closer portraits.

And then, of course, there are the farm details.

The rustic structures and agricultural setting add a little texture and personality to the gallery, especially when mixed in with the softer, romantic portraits.

Letting Them Be Themselves

One of the biggest goals I have for an engagement session is that the final gallery actually feels like the couple.

Not like a Pinterest board.

Not like a collection of poses they were told to do.

Like them.

And with Taylor and Moon, that meant giving them plenty of room to play.

Some of my favorite images from their session aren’t necessarily the ones where they’re perfectly posed and looking at the camera. They’re the moments in between—the laugh immediately after a joke, the ridiculous face, the little glance toward each other, or the moment when the silliness suddenly turns into a genuine hug.

Those moments are often where the real magic happens.

And Then There Are the Sweet Moments

Of course, for all their commitment to being silly, Taylor and Moon are also incredibly sweet together.

There is an ease to the way they hold each other. They can slow things down just as easily as they can turn up the ridiculousness.

That balance made their session feel incredibly genuine.

One minute we’re laughing at whatever ridiculous thing is happening, and the next they’re wrapped up in each other, completely focused on the fact that they’re getting married.

And speaking of that…

Next Stop: August 2026

Taylor and Moon are getting married in August 2026, and if this engagement session is any indication, their wedding day is going to be one heck of a good time.

There will probably be plenty of laughter.

There will almost certainly be some excellent bits.

There will be a lot of love.

And I have a feeling there will be at least a few moments where everyone around them is laughing because Taylor and Moon have decided that, yes, they are absolutely going to take the joke all the way.

I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes them.

For now, though, I’m just really glad we got to spend an afternoon at Hovander Park documenting exactly what makes these two so much fun to photograph:

They love each other deeply, they make each other laugh constantly, and they are both willing to commit to the bit.

And honestly?

That’s a pretty great way to start a marriage.
